Last week, Little Pickle Press was very fortunate to be
contacted by 1% for the Planet, a community partner of B Corporation. Recently, 1% for the Planet and B Corp hosted an amazing webinar about Strategic Corporate Giving. As a B
Corporation, we admire companies that are dedicated to improving the world
around them, and the programs that make that improvement possible. 1% for the
Planet is one such program.
1% for the Planet is a “growing global movement of 1476
companies that donate 1% of their sales to a network of 2,968 environmental
organizations worldwide.” Their mission is “build and support an alliance of
businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet.” By
participating, companies have the opportunity to watch their self-worth and
net-worth rise, and to network with a wonderful selection of like-minded
companies.
The idea for 1% for the Planet came in 2001, when Yvon
Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia, and Craig Matthews, the owner of Blue
Ribbon Flies, studied their two successful business plans and decided to start
an organization to encourage more businesses to take an environmentalist
mindset. At it’s official launch in 2002, 21 companies signed up for 1% for the
Planet. Since then the movement has been successfully growing by word of mouth.
Members of 1% for the Planet can contribute 1% of their
sales to any of the amazing environmental organizations listed on their website. Members make donations directly, in order to encourage personal
relationships between the businesses and the groups they support. For detailed
instructions on how to join 1% for the Planet, click here.
One of the coolest things about 1% for the Planet (besides
their awesome mission of course), is that they have a very unique way of
promoting themselves. The 1% for the Planet music site is a compilation of rare or exclusive music from top musicians. This site
allows people to listen to amazing music, while spreading the message and
supporting a message of environmental stewardship.
Thank you, 1% for the Planet, for all that you do, and for
reaching out to Little Pickle Press! We are very excited to have learned about
this movement!

It's so good to see companies trying to work for good, rather than focusing solely on their own bottom line. I imagine 1% from companies like Patagonia must come out to quite a lot of donations to environmental organizations!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is really neat! I'm especially keen on the idea of a music site, but I'm impressed with the whole concept.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great organization and the work they do really sets an example for other companies to follow.
ReplyDeleteMust explore the music now!
