B Corporations We Love: Change.org

By Cameron Crane

“We joined the B Corp community to use the power of business to solve social problems, and to be part of a movement that is timely, relevant, and poised to change the way we do business.”- Change.org

As we mentioned last month, we are starting a new tradition of recognizing one B Corporation that we love a month. From here forward, we will be selecting a B Corp that we believe stands out as a company, that goes above and beyond to make an impact. This month, we would like to recognize Change.org as a company that does just that.

Change.org is a website that aims to promote social change by allowing members to start campaigns about issues that they care about. Within the Change.org platform, anyone can "start an online petition, sign petitions related to their interests, and magnify their impact by sharing each petition with friends." Although campaigns can be about anything, the top causes are the environment, animals, sustainable food, health, human rights, and economic and criminal justice. Many petitions created through Change.org have seen tremendous success, and you may have even signed one.

You also may have heard of Change.org in the headlines recently. Just last month, a petition started by Stef Gray, a 23-year-old graduate living in New York, was successful in urging Sallie Mae, one of the largest student-loan providers, to change their forebearance free policy. Change.org has also received media attention for their role in addressing issues like bullying and bank fees.

The empowering of anyone, young or old, to make a difference in their community is part of what makes Change.org so special. In fact, their mission “to build an international network of people empowered to fight for what’s right locally, nationally, and globally”, is part of what caught Little Pickle Press’ attention in the first place. Change.org also helps nonprofits to connect with people passionate about their cause.

If you are interested in starting a campaign or growing membership in your nonprofit, we recommend reaching out through Change.org. You can also browse existing campaigns here, or connect with them on Facebook and Twitter to stay informed about issues that you might take interest in.

As a fellow B Corporation, we would like to thank Change.org for their global efforts to promote social change.

  6. I am glad to see change.org being profiled here-- I have indeed signed at least 2 or 3 petitions which originated from their platform.

Change is good, change is needed, and if it promotes change--especially change as highlighted by us (the people)-- than I am all in favor of it!
