The Balancing Act: Broadcast for the First Time

By Rana DiOrio, Founder, Little Pickle Press
There is a first time for everything. At Little Pickle Press we enjoy milestone firsts on a regular basis. This month we will celebrate our first TV appearance on The Balancing Act, America's premier morning TV show on Lifetime about women, for women, and trusted by women. The show airs daily nationwide at 7:00 am ET/PT.

I remember the day when the Little Pickle Press toll-free line rang (we affectionately refer to it as The Bat Phone), and I answered. It was Gregory Fake, Associate Producer at O2 Media, who does all of the production for the show. He had found us through his research. He had many insightful and evocative questions to ask of me. By the end of the conversation, he was convinced that I needed to be a guest on The Balancing Act, and I was excited to discuss the opportunity with my team.

Weeks later, I took a redeye to Ft. Lauderdale. I have young children, so I try to spend as much time with them as possible, hence the uncomfortable redeye. After a nap, a shower, and a run-through the host’s notes, I set off on my way to O2 Production Studios. Upon my arrival, I was struck by how inviting the studio was and how beautiful the employees were. Allow me to assure you, these folks dress for success.

I was warmly greeted and ushered into the make-up room. I had selected a dress to wear, but I brought a few other options (as instructed) so I was certain to complement (or at least not clash with!) the host. With hair and makeup done, I was chaperoned into the studio where I had the pleasure of meeting Danielle Knox for the first time. She is a stunning, articulate, Bay Area native who is a mother of three who makes it all look so easy. She was a strong lead, so I followed. Having spent her entire career in front of a TV camera, she’s very comfortable and confident. We did our first take, which was a 5+ minute continuous shoot. We were all happy with it, but we elected to add some additional questions in case we wanted to augment or substitute the original take.
O2 Production Studios and the talented professionals at The Balancing Act made this LPP first enjoyable and rewarding. The segment will air nationwide at 7:00 am on Tuesday, June 14th. Please feel free to comment upon the interview by visiting either The Balancing Act Facebook page or our Facebook page. Wow! Wonderful interview! Rana's descriptions of each of the What Does It mean To Be...? books beautifully summarized the books and provided the main ideas very clearly. I loved the main points - celebrate diversity, appreciate every moment and protect the environment. Understanding how questions asked by children can motivate writing was very interesting. Motivation for Sophia's Dream and your Fantastic Elastic Brain expanded motivational ideas. Pictures and references to terraskin and multi-modal approach emphasized the Little Pickle Press strategy to be build on new technologies for the publishing world. Take a bow, Rana!
